Don’t Let Pride Hide, Crucify It!

The way up is down. That’s the paradox Jesus taught us in Matthew 23:12 – whoever humbles himself will be exalted. This Sunday, we explored how pride hides in our lives in seven subtle ways: behind strength, insecurity, knowledge, busyness, offense, false humility, and control. Pride disguises itself so well that we can see it clearly in others but miss it completely in ourselves.

Here’s the truth: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). Pride was the original sin that turned angels into devils, and it goes before our own destruction. But there’s hope! The first step to salvation – and every step forward in our walk with Christ – requires us to lay down our pride and say, “I can’t do this without You, Lord.”

Grace always flows downhill. To receive it, we must bow low. Isaiah 57:15 reminds us that the high and holy God dwells with those who have a contrite and humble spirit. When we bend, God draws near and lifts us up.
